It is pertinent to mention that the Super Four stage match between the arch-rivals was the only game in the regional tournament to have a reserve day due to the rain forecast. The ACC’s policy came under criticism as they were blamed for changing rules in favour of two teams.

Former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad had hoped that the match wouldn’t take place att all as it was unjust for Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Now, Arjuna Ranatunga – who led Sri Lanka to victory in the ICC Cricket World Cup 1996 – also criticized the organizations for it. He said changing rules to favour teams was a dangerous precedent.

“You take the Asia Cup You have rules before the tournament, but before that one game, they changed the rules,” he said. “Where is ACC? Where is ICC? I am not very comfortable when you have a tournament where you change the rules for one team. You are looking at a disaster in the future.”

He claimed that former cricketers will not criticize the policy because there is money involved.

Arjuna Ranatunga added that he will not be surprised if rules are changed for the Pakistan-India clash in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 14 in Ahmedabad.

“I won’t be surprised if they change the rule before the India-Pakistan game [at the upcoming ODI World Cup]. ICC will keep their mouth shut and say ‘okay, do it’. ICC just talks rubbish, nothing happens,” he said.

He said all cricketing boards should be involved in decision-making.

“Why do the other countries allow that to happen? Because the BCCI is powerful, or one particular person is powerful. No, it can’t happen like that. They should have given an extra day for all the games if that was the case,” the former cricketer added.
